The role you’ll contribute:
To provide specialized, trauma-informed medical forensic services to all individuals who present with complaints or concerns of sexual assault. These services will be prompt, nonjudgmental and compassionate while encouraging autonomy and providing trauma-informed, patient-centered care.

Conduct a comprehensive medical forensic exam including:
Obtain informed consent.
Conduct a patient medical and forensic history.
Perform a head-to-toe assessment.
Offer and provide a detailed ano-genital exam.
Explain and complete evidence collection.
Discuss and offer testing and treatment for STIs, including HIV and pregnancy.
Complete safety assessment and discharge of the patient when appropriate.
Perform forensic photography.
Provide respective services supporting emotions, reinforcing autonomy.
Provide testimony as required in legal proceedings.
Demonstrate performance consistent with:
Professional Forensic Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
The Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA).
The mission and goals of UChicago-AdventHealth.
Policies and protocols of UChicago-AdventHealth.
Peer review of all medical forensic examinations by a qualified peer.
Proper use and management of photography equipment.
Must not be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol while on-call.
Must commit to cover minimum number of shifts, and other scheduling and on-call requirements as determined by the SANE Coordinator.
When on call, arrive at the facility and initiate patient care within 90 minutes of patient arrival.
Must have reliable transportation and phone access.
Complete orientation of the regional hospitals.
Must be present during at least 70% of program meetings and educational/procedural updates
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required; BSN strongly preferred or currently enrolled in BSN Program; must be willing to obtain BSN within 3 years from date of hire.
Work experience - 1 years of nursing experience in the ER highly preferred
Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date
Current Illinois Licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
Current driver’s license.
Completion of an IAFN-approved SANE didactic course for age groups served (AA SANE didactic certificate).
Completion of the AA SANE clinical log prior to practicing independently within 1 year of hire.
Meets standard physical requirements of UChicago-AdventHealth.
Preferred ACLS, TNCC or TNS, and ENPC or PALS.
