BJC HealthCare is excited to introduce ourEarn-While-You-Learn Program to compensate Student Nurse Interns while completing their final semester of clinicals. This experience provides hands-on training in one of our twelve hospitals.
While being paired with an experienced nurse, you’ll gain valuable perspective into a day-in-the-life of a Registered Nurse on the unit of your preference. This is an opportunity to flex what you’ve learned in the classroom, simulation labs, and other clinical rotations under the guidance of someone who has seen it all!
In addition to compensation and clinical skills development, our Earn-While-You-Learn Program offers soft skills training, full cultural immersion, and networking opportunities with interdisciplinary healthcare leaders.

Compensation: $17.50/hour

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose
The Student Nurse Intern is paired with a registered professional nurse to provide multi-skilled, direct patient care. This role assists the nurse with the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans. The individual must be completing their final practicum/preceptorship clinical experience in an accredited RN program. Participants in this Earn While You Learn Program are placed at a BJC facility until school required hours are complete. Participants are required to fulfill a six (6) month RN work commitment post-graduation and have 90 days after graduation to successfully pass the NCLEX.
Responsibilities
Interprets data and implements appropriate interventions.
Implements and documents direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse including, but not limited to, the performance of activities of daily living, point of care testing, and specimen collection in accordance with unit specific standards of care and policies.
Communicates with members of the patient’s healthcare team to optimize care of the patient. Observes changes in patient condition and reports them immediately to appropriate personnel.
Supports the nurse to provide patient and family education including, instructions or preparation for tests and procedures.
May perform advanced patient care skills including, IV insertion, foley catherization, and central line maintenance, with additional education, training, and competency validation prior to independent performance.
BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
