This Nurse Practitioner is a graduate of a NLNAC or CCNE accredited school of nursing and meets Veterans Affairs qualification standards. The NP must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a Nurse Practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree in nursing from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. Applicants pending the completion of educational, or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Preferred Experience: At least two years recent (in the last three years) or current experience in outpatient mental health clinic as a licensed independent practicing PMHNP-BC (LIP) providing mental health evaluations and treatment preferred. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse, I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse, I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Duties may include but are not limited to: The NP may perform the following functions in this position as approved by the Chief of Psychiatry Service in the credentialing process: general evaluation for mental (and, as appropriate, physical) health including but not limited to, completing full intake mental health evaluations, ordering of diagnostic procedures/labs/medical supplies, formulating plans of care, prescribing medication, completing clinical reminders, and making appropriate referrals/consults to specialty areas. Provides individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy interventions as appropriate. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance mental health care services, assessment and intervention for urgent and/or emergent mental health problems. Participates in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team in order to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care. Provides nurse practitioner support and consultation to other outpatient clinics in area of expertise when available and appropriate. Prescribes Schedule II - IV following the standardized process approved by the Medical Executive Committee (MEC). Follows the Prescription Drug Monitoring Report (CURES) requirement, i.e., checking use every 4 months for chronic controlled substance use. New prescriptions for schedule II - IV may require some consultations with a psychiatrist that is documented in the electronic health record. Seeks consultation as needed when managing a medical or mental health condition that is not resolving as anticipated, adjustments in medication/therapy have not brought about the expected improvements, or any time for additional expertise on providing appropriate treatment for a specific condition. Completes electronic progress notes in a problem-oriented format with sufficient detail to obtain a clear picture of the patient's current mental health status. Participates in the bi-annual OPPE peer review process. Serves as a preceptor for graduate nurse practitioner students. Demonstrates mandatory and clinical competencies for the position and grade.
