The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VAMC in Philadelphia, PA is currently recruiting for one full-time Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) to function as an integral member of the Primary Care team. The CRNP is responsible and accountable for provision of care for a panel of patients to include the management of complex acute and chronic medical conditions. The practice also includes focus on health promotion, disease prevention and whole health interventions. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years Primary Care experience BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Applicants must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in an MSN Bridge Program.] The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing located at 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, New York 10006 or call (800) 669-1656 extension 153. The NLNAC accredits all levels of nursing programs. Additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC web site; OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). EXCEPTION (b): The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in an MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN but receive an MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a bachelor's degree is not awarded. EXCEPTION (c): In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration: Must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to the Basic Requirements, the following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists. On and after [March 17, 2009], registered nurses appointed or otherwise moving into these assignments must meet and maintain the following additional qualifications. This includes employees appointed before [March 17, 2009], who obtain such qualifications on or after [March 17, 2009]. Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. Major Duties & Responsibilities include: Works as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) teamlet within Primary Care to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to Veterans enrolled in the system Along with the PACT team the nurse practitioner is responsible for managing a panel of 800-1000 patients Participates in all Primary Care staff meetings, team huddles, etc. Maintains recognized Nurse Practitioner standards of Practice and follows approved Scope of Practice Exhibits strong clinic skills to improve patients care for an adult population as well as excellent interpersonal relationship skills in interpreting and communicating health care information to the patient, family, and that interdisciplinary health care team Provides comprehensive healthcare which includes the assessment, diagnosis, planning, ordering, and interpretation of therapeutic interventions to a population of female Veterans across the lifespan Provides preventive health education, gender specific sexuality and mental health counseling, and referrals as needed Determines the need for a variety of diagnostics modalities to include however not limited to computerized tomography (CT), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), electrocardiogram (EKG), laboratory assays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, ultrasonography, and X-rays necessary to obtain health data on the case Interprets results and make diagnoses of diseases and/or disorders Prescribes evidenced-based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, to include referral when appropriate Provides gender specific examinations including but not limited to breast exams, pelvic exams, rectal exams, and vaginal exams.
