The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for multiple Full-Time, Permanent, Licensed Practical Nurses. These positions are located in the Rehabilitation and Extended Care (REC) Service Line. **A recruitment incentive may be eligible for a highly qualified candidate** ***Applicant may be eligible for Employee Incentive Scholarship Program*** As an LPN, you are responsible for the following major duties to include, but are not limited to: Serve as a responsible member of the resident care team and interact with residents, family members, professional and supportive personnel, who provide resident care with members of other services. Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the resident's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's requirements relative to the age-specific needs. Make pertinent observations of the resident's physical and emotional reactions to hospital care and treatment for purposes of communicating with the RN and recording in the resident's record in the approved charting format. Perform a moderately difficult range of nursing care activities, which have been acquired through training and experience. Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care that expedites the resident's return to, or maintenance of, optimal functioning by providing continuity of care of each resident's individual needs. Recognize and properly use equipment, materials and supplies to carry out procedures and other assignments with supervision by the RN for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity with established policies and procedures. Perform a variety of nursing care activities that include activities of daily living, which include, but not limited to: vital signs, intake and output, and pain screening with supervision from RN. Assist with range of motion, ambulating, lifting, positioning, and self-help activities using mental and physical rehabilitative techniques to help residents reach their optimum levels of functioning with RN supervision. Perform procedures as deemed competent under the supervision of a RN, which may include brace/splint application, ear irrigations, tracheotomy/respiratory assistive devices, culture specimen collection, care of surgical drains (Jackson-Pratt, hemovac, penrose, etc.), complicated dressing changes, non-weighted nasogastric tube insertion and irrigation, tube feedings, gastrostomy, acute replacement of displaced tubes (Foley), suprapubic catheter replacement, irrigation of new and established colostomies/ileostomy, suture/staple removal, and chest tube site/dressing assessments. Provide nursing care to residents requiring close and continual observation and monitoring of technical equipment under supervision of the RN. Participate in resident/family teaching programs related to activities of daily living and reinforces instructions provided by the RN and provider and documents in approved format. Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacology and skill sufficient to calculate dosages and administer medications as prescribed by the provider and authorized in policies and procedures. Ability to use practical knowledge of human behavior, motivation, and reaction to situations in working effectively with residents, family, and other staff members. Knowledge of infection control and sterile technique to safely carry out assigned duties including the resident in isolation. Assesses and identifies usual and unusual psychosocial and physiologic changes in resident's condition, interventions, and their responses to therapy and teaching. Work Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, including weekends and holidays. There will be six (6) - twelve (12) hour shifts and one (1) - eight (8) hour shift per two week pay period. Employees never work more than 3 days in a row, unless requested by the employee. There are 10 paid holidays, regardless if an employee works, for full-time employees.
