M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
This location offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through University of Minnesota Health. Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and the delivery of thousands of babies each year, to care of patients with the most complex conditions. Areas of specialization include solid organ and blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease and cancer.
Emergency services at University of Minnesota Medical Center provides prompt, quality care around the clock, when you are faced with medical or behavioral emergencies.
Our emergency team partners with the full spectrum of medical specialties and ancillary services including anesthesiology, intensive care, cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, radiology, rehabilitation and surgery.
Emergency Services:
Provides care to 30,000 patients annually, average 80 daily.
Cath lab, stroke center, trauma center
Multidisciplinary approach to all emergencies.
Care delivery team: Board Certified/Eligible ED physicians, RNs, ER Techs, ED Specialists.
Cross-trained to the Observation Unit.
This position will be working 56 hours every two weeks on the night (11pm-7am) shift, 8 hour shifts and every other weekend. The position is eligible for benefits including loan repayment.
Responsibilities/Job Description
Triage patients effectively according to policies, laws, and resources.
Uses the nursing process to provide care for any patient presenting to the department. An individualized plan of care is developed in collaboration with patient, family and healthcare team to support the physical and emotional needs of a wide variety of ill// injured patients.
Prioritizes the care of multiple patients with varied presentations.
Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient.
Collaborates with the patient, family and healthcare team to develop and execute a plan of care to address patient presentations to the ED including illnesses and injuries in all age groups.
Provides effective and timely patient/family education related to treatment plan.
Recognizes and responds to subtle or rapid changes in patient status.
Qualifications
Required:
One year of Med/Surg experience required.
Current MN RN license
BLS
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification within one year of hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred:
1 year of Emergency Department or critical care experience
BSN
Certification by the Emergency Nurses Association (CEN) and/or course in advanced trauma nursing (CATN).
