UW Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide behavioral health support services and education to patients/families and care teams. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting nurses and the health care teams in the care of patients with behavior health issues including those with disruptive behaviors, and serves as a role model for care providers in the provision of trauma informed interventions.

SCHEDULE
80-100% days.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• In collaboration with the Behavioral Health CNS at the NW campus, assume accountability for assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of  programs related to behavioral health by ensuring that regulatory requirements related to practice and documentation are met:
  a.    Restraint management
  b.    Workplace violence
  c.    Behavioral Response (Code Grey)
  d.    Suicide Prevention
• Support RNs in caring for patients with disruptive and challenging behaviors. Provide support to the families as needed.
• Respond to Behavioral Emergencies as available to assist with de-escalation.
• Conduct a learning needs assessment for education related to the management of patients with challenging behavior and/or psychiatric diagnoses
• Based on learning assessment; design, deliver and evaluate training program related to behavioral health
• Attends appropriate clinical meetings to serve as a resource for nursing staff and health care teams across the organization.
• Provides patient and/or family with de-escalation education and strategies
• Participates as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices and evaluation of patient care outcomes. 
• Evaluates quality outcomes for UWMC  through participation in the development of quality indicators including: Compliance with evidence and regulatory based restraint standards and practice.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master's degree in Nursing.
• At least 4 years of nursing experience.
• Training and experience in inpatient psychiatric services.
• Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
• Exemplary communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with clinical expertise in the care of patients/families experiencing difficulty coping with both acute and chronic health conditions and hospitalization.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

• Washington State RN license required by start date.

• Previous CNS experience
