Purpose: This position assumes responsibility for and is accountable for the delivery of care in the Behavioral Health unit that is consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of nursing through effective utilization of resources. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Span of Control: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Mental Health Workers, and Unit Coordinators.
Develops, implements and continuously monitors a unit plan that complements the goals and objectives of the department by identifying areas of need and establishing and implementing realistic action plans to meet or exceed goals.
Oversees the supervision of nursing and other non-clinical personnel to facilitate optimal patient care through the use of nursing process.
Fosters an environment for open communication and collaborative practice by establishing unit meetings and communication system to disseminate developments and changes in nursing and hospital practices.
Identifies, encourages and facilitates associate development through partnership with nursing education by coordinating orientation and additional learning needs.
Develops and maintains a quality improvement program that meets acceptable established standards and reflects the goals and objectives of the nursing department.
Delivers quality care while maintaining costs within the hospital’s fiscal standards by developing a realistic operational and capital budget by forecasting annual needs.
Maintain contemporary professional knowledge and education.
Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as required.

Health Care and HIT Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of operational health care delivery systems and the current health care landscape. Skills and experience with developing competitive business strategies for health care. Skills and experience with the operational aspects of health care technology deployment. Familiarity and comfort with technology-based operational improvement. Health care management or consulting experience preferred.
Communications: Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to take abstract, complex and/or technical information and break it down for a variety of audiences in a way that is meaningful for them.
Functional Oversight: Issue identification, gap analysis, ability to prioritize business needs and execute solutions.
Financial Management: Ability to understand financial reports, develop basic financial models, and identify trends, variances, and opportunities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Minimum of five (5) years’ clinical experience as a staff nurse.
Minimum of two (2) years as an Assistant Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Knowledge of state and other regulatory agency requirements as it relates to behavioral health.
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
Current CT Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Successful completion of a Joint Commission approved non-violent de-escalation certification program within 30 days of hire.
