Student Health Services at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with strong clinical skills in the assessment and medical management of primarily a young adult student population. The successful candidate shares responsibility for rotating on-call coverage of mental health emergencies. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner also provides consultation to clinical staff as well as faculty, administrators, and parents. Opportunities exist to participate in weekly staff meetings, case conference meetings, and attend professional development sessions.
Specific responsibilities include diagnostic and pharmacologic treatment, crisis intervention, and supportive therapy as needed. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner maintains accurate and complete clinical documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. This position reports to the Director of Mental Health Services with clinical oversight provided by the Senior Staff Psychiatrist.
Applicants must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri and be certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, or Certified as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with significant psychiatric experience. Must possess a DEA license and have a minimum of 3 years of experience prescribing psychiatric medications.
Skills and expertise of the successful candidate include: 1) well-developed clinical skills, 2) demonstrated ability to work compassionately and effectively with a wide range of presenting issues and problems. 3) demonstrated ability to handle spontaneous work demands, 4) a collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary staff of health and mental health professionals, and 5) multicultural competency, possessing the ability and skills to work with diverse populations (e.g. ethnic, LGBTQ, gender, etc.), and 6) prior experience working with university students.
The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
